COURSE CONTENT

The Course structure is based on the criteria stipulated by BACP for Supervisor Accreditation, models facets of the supervisory relationship and aims to develop a learning community in which a healthy working alliance is established. Students will be expected to develop a sense of personal accountability in taking responsibility for their own learning and to participate in the learning of other course members.

The Course will explore a variety of models / theories of supervision, provide an opportunity for attendees to develop and practise supervision skills and help delegates work with the challenges posed when working within organisational settings.

The themes explored during the Course will enable attendees to develop an understanding of the unconscious processes within Supervision and to increase their appreciation of the developmental needs of both Supervisors and Supervisees.

Consideration of the Ethical context of Supervision will be core to the Course structure and ethos. We will explore the significance of working with difference and delegates will experience a range of opportunities to develop a creative and flexible personal supervision style.

ASSIGNMENT STRUCTURE

The course will be assessed through the compilation of a Portfolio of Evidence in which delegates will accumulate the following individual assignments

  1. A Reflective Learning Journal maintained throughout the Course - A record of individual learning experience whilst on the course. The Journal material will provide the foundation for the various written assignments. This assignment will not be tutor assessed.
  2. Supervision Skills Practice - from the outset of the course delegates will be learning and practising their supervision skills, evidencing  understanding through skills practise. This assignment will involve self-reflection, peer and tutor feedback.
  3. 3000 word Personal Philosophy of the Theory and Practice of Supervision – within which delegates will demonstrate their own thinking as a result of the course material and personal studies, clearly showing how practice as a Counselling Supervisor is informed by theoretical knowledge. This assignment will be Peer and Tutor assessed and submitted by March 2012.
  4. 4000 word Case study to illustrate Professional Practice as an Ethical Supervisor - demonstrating how delegates put into practice the values, beliefs and knowledge shown within their personal Philosophy. This assignment will be Peer and Tutor assessed and will be submitted by May 2012
  5. Log of Books and Articles read - a personal evaluation of the supervision related material  read during the course, describing how this has informed and developed the delegate's view of the practice of supervision.
  6. Log of Supervision provided – the delegate's log of the supervision of supervisees, both on the course and within the delegate's supervisory role. 60 hours Supervision practise of which up to 35 hours may be completed in the course structure
  7. Log of supervision of work as a supervisor – the delegate's personal log detailing the supervision received within the duration of the course. Delegates will require a minimum 1 hr monthly consultative supervision for their supervision work.
