Successful applicants will be invited to register for the course and at that stage will be asked to send a £100 deposit* to secure their place on the course.

By taking this award you will:
- learn about the effects of different drugs
- understand the harm caused by substance misuse
- recognise the main signs and symptoms of using specific drugs - including alcohol
- identify the links between HIV / AIDS, hepatitis and substance misuse
- know how drugs affect pregnancy
- recognise the signs and symptoms of an overdose of drugs or alcohol
- identify the assumptions and stereotypes associated with substance misuse
Applicants require no previous counselling training or exeperience.
The qualification has been developed to conform to Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS).
The award is accredited onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) by the Office of the Qualifications and Examination Regulator (Ofqual)
